Our Humble Beginnings Sponsor Moms & Dads, a US nonprofit 501 (c)(3), has been helping orphans in Egypt since 2009. To date, 30 children have received basic living needs such as food, clothing, medical care and dental services. In addition to their basic needs, Sponsor Moms & Dads created an education program that teaches these children to read, write and speak in English as well as the newest education program, the Sponsor M & D scholarship program which is designed to send at least 2 children to college anywhere in the world that they are accepted for 4 years. Sponsor Moms & Dads is run by an all-volunteer staff with little to no overhead costs so that at least 90% of the donated funds go directly to the children who need it most. The orphan children in the Middle East face a special challenge in that the boys, who find themselves without parental protection, often fall into the sex trade, used as sexual slaves until they no longer fit the need of their captors. Once they become too old to be of use, they are thrown out into the streets or are “disposed” of like so much trash. The girls find themselves married off at the tender ages of 8-12, or they become permanent residents of the orphanage due to their lack of male protection in the form of father, brother or husband.
